The towns of Tias and Puerto del Carmen plus the smaller villages of Mácher, La Asomada, Tegoyo, Conil and Masdache make up the Municipality of Tias which is located 12 kilometers from Arrecife, the capital of the island.
Until 1965 the small port of Tiñosa was only a fishing village supplemented by the farming of Tomatoes, Onions and Grapes then tourism took hold with Puerto del Carmen becoming the central destination of Lanzarote.
Tias town itself is a popular destination
for ex pats to reside but it is lately becoming quite a busy centre
in its own right. There is a theatre within a nice square and a market now
held every Saturday where fresh produce may be brought.
It also has an excellent Fish n Chip restaurant! .jpg)
Up on the hill at Candalaria stands
the majestic church of Nuestra Señora de la Candalaria. Built
in 1796 this magnificent church represents the islands architecture
well. Great views from the church.
(Lots of weddings held there every day during the summer months).

The town Puerto del Carmen being the main
tourist town of the island it obviously
has something for everyone.
Strolling along the seafront promenade of any evening one may choose
from over 100 restaurants serving everything from Tapas
to Indian food.
The nightclubs are many and many
of the night life
features live performances ranging from
rock n roll, jazz, soul, flamenco rumbas to traditional Canarias
Music.
The nightlife really doesn’t start until very late as the
Spanish like to eat late and boogey long!
'Centro Atlántico' on the 'Avenida de las Playas',
has a good choice of discos and night clubs.
There are 6 kilometers of white sandy Blue Flag beaches .jpg)
which run the length of Puerto del Carmen
making water sports so popular.
(Parasailing, jet skis, pedallo’s, sailing, diving,
skiing, surfing etc).
The local authorities have spent vast
amounts of money to improve the island
and the town is presently undergoing a complete
revamp making it into a minimum four star resort.
This revamp commenced some months ago
and is due to be finished by early Spring 2009.
The multi million euro projects include the
entire seafront area having a new water drainage system, grass
verges, cycle lanes and a one way traffic system.

There are three 4* hotels and a 5* Gran Lux Hotel
planned for construction within the grounds of the
brand new Lanzarote Golf Course which opened this
year.
This new course sits high on the hill behind Puerto del Carmen looking
across the town out to sea.
100 new exclusive homes are to be built within
the Golf course grounds and the plots are currently
for sale “off
plan” although over half have already been
snapped up.
Lanzarote Golf Course is a wonderful
new golfing venue making Lanzarote a brand new golfing destination
where the game can be played year round in the ideal and clement
weather conditions.
Together with Fuerteventura which is only a 20
minute ferry crossing away from Lanzarote there is now a
choice of clubs on which to play for a unique golf holiday.
The newly revamped harbor will open
for luxury Yacht berths early next year too, transformed
from the old harbor into a modern marina making a total of
three on the island.
The famous and very popular Puerto Calero
Marina

Festivals.
The famous Lanzarote Carnival held
every year in February is a wonderful experience
and attracts tourists by time and again to participate. The parade starts
at around 5pm leaving the far end of the town and culminating
in an all night party in the old town harbor.
If you do not sing, dance and dress up to
generally have a great evening then you will be the odd person out!
June sees fiesta abound with the festival of San Antonio
for the 1st to the 13th culminating with the Festival of San
Juan .
