You will be asked to produce your Passport every
time you make a purchase with a Credit Card.
Perfumes, cosmetics and leather goods are
much cheaper here than on the mainland and also than those sold at the airport. Cigarettes,
tobacco and alcohol are very cheap but please shop in the recommended
outlets as not all products are genuine. Please note
Duty Free Allowances.
Always keep the receipts and the tags attached to your purchase until you are absolutely sure that you wish to keep it. If the tags are cut off but you still have proof of purchase it is unlikely that you will be able to exchange or return a purchase. If the purchase is intact you have up to two weeks for a refund.
Please check inside boxes when purchasing any goods to make sure that the product is correct and has its guarantees etc. For Electronic devices the letters EEC or CEEE should be on the box. This is one reason why we strongly recommend Visanta for all electrical goods.
If you are seriously concerned about your rights please request a form for complaint which is called an Aviso. These forms are in three parts and they clearly state which color copy goes to the Cabildo, the shop and to the customer.
Note some shops still close in the afternoon typically from 1pm until 5pm and then stay open until around 10pm, they also close on a Saturday afternoon but this is becoming less common place.
